We are all here to be makers, to become articulators of the ongoing creation of the world. That’s what truly makes history. That’s what transforms the world when it needs to be transformed…when it needs to be remade and reborn from the depths of the souls of the people living in it. For we are not here to be passive witnesses of our age but to be it’s makers and its articulators. To paraphrase an old proverb, begin to weave with what you have at hand, and the divine will provide the thread…
– Michael Meade
We are all part of an integrative human thread across generations. The recognition, exploration, and practice of intergenerational connections is what drives us.
Post Millennial (PM) is here for people who aspire to cultivate generational perspectives, recognize the differences inherent within generations, and determine how we might use those differences to steer back toward a vision of humanity that is bigger than any single demographic. We promote diverse transgenerational narratives to increase awareness of our common humanity and inspire authentic expression of our true selves. In this process we uncover the heart of the challenges we face, and the truth of the opportunities and solutions that exist within us all.
Our idea is to publish a book of post-millennial voices; voices that offer fresh perspectives and illuminate angles of the new story pushing through the cracks of our current narratives.
The book, tentatively titled Millennials Beyond the Label, will be a collective vision leading into the revolutionary heart of the unknown. We’re looking for the voices and visions of the inheritors of our aching world. We’re looking for the people unwilling to be defined by a top-down corporate culture that would have us be passive consumers in a system devouring our planet. We’re looking for anyone with a story to tell about where we’re going, about what comes next, about who we actually are.
The book will explore the origin and uses of the millennial generational label, as well as ways in which millennials can reclaim their narrative and use a generational lens for empowerment, rather than an instrument for mass persuasion.
Who are millennials beyond the label that was given to us? How has our environment shaped who we are? What do we do next? These are some of the questions that inspired Post Millennial and we hope will inspire you to participate in this project.
Thinking about the millennial, and any other generational identity, is about analyzing how our past has shaped who we are. Translated into writing and media creation, this transmission of experience can take many forms. It is up to you whether that is a gonzo-style social commentary about your New Year office party, an essay about language, media, technology, capitalism, propaganda, or a collection of photos and art that reveal a deeper story about millennials beyond divisionary labels.
We are currently open for submissions. If you would like to contribute an essay, short story, or other piece of writing or creative expression that conveys your perspective on the theme of Millennials Beyond The Label, feel free to drop us a line at email@example.com.
Please put the words “Beyond The Label” in the subject line of the e-mail. Feel free to tell us a little about yourself—your experience and background as a writer/media producer and what your particular story and work of art will add to a collection of stories about what it means to be a millennial.
We welcome anything from essays to art, fiction or non, photography or noncategorical artistic expression. Please aim for content that is between 2500 and 3500 words (about 5-7 pages), or less.
You don’t have to fit in the millennial age cohort to participate and there are no restrictions in terms of tone or style. We believe that outside perspectives of millennials are also important, as we are interconnected and interdependent.
Much more than a place to submit your writing, by signing on as a contributor you are joining a community where you can discuss your writing and your ideas, get feedback, and ultimately edit each other’s work before our content is finalized. Naturally, all profits derived from the project will be shared equally with all contributors.
We look forward to digging deep with you. We believe that in the depths of hurt, there’s an inextinguishable vitality. Authenticity, truth, and openness are the way forward to change the world.
Remember to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to introduce yourself, and if you’re inspired, to share your vision and potential contribution to the project.
